SUCCESS STORIES

Chris Jiminez
Update Summer 2004

Chris had a great year at Stamford High both academically and athletically. He remained involved in the Red Cross Youth Corps, the Interact Club and FBLA (Future Business Leaders of America)throughout his junior year.
As the starting shortstop for the Stamford High Varsity baseball team, Chris hit .357 with three home runs and an on base average of .481.

He was also one of the honorable mention selections for the 2004 All-FCIAC baseball team. This summer, Chris is playing for the Senior Division of the Babe Ruth League and is on a U18 Travel Team and in July the All Star season will begin. He will be attending two baseball showcases in the near future, including the Impact Prospects Showcase at UMASS, Amherst.

Chris has decided that he would like to study Criminal Justice and has begun his college search - but his passion is to play baseball. We think that Mickey would understand.

Jiminez has wrestled and played freshman football since arriving at Stamford High but his No.1 sport is baseball. When baseball coach Bob Augustyn named him the starting shortstop as a sophomore, it was clear Jiminez had a future in this sport. Stamford has rarely had an underclassman start at such an important position under Augustyn. "I was just happy to make the team this year, let alone start," Jiminez said. "I didn't think (Augustyn) thought of me as a big time player. I'm glad I got the chance."

Jiminez began the baseball season hitting well over .400 before finishing around .250 while providing the team with solid defense.

Jiminez was on the wrestling team this past winter but was sidelined after getting sick. He also played freshman football but didn't go out for football last fall because he was involved in fall baseball. While baseball will continue to be his top priority, Jiminez said he plans to play football again this fall.
