Nitesh Banta
Update summer 2004
Nitesh Banta was named a recipient of the second annual Lione award during his sophomore year at Stamford High School. This was the first year that Sophomores were recipients of the award, which in prior years was awarded to seniors only. Banta was a member of the Black Knights tennis team.
The Mayor's Youth Services Bureau honored twenty-three high school students
for their leadership, academic, and service accomplishments.
Nitesh Banta was the recipient from Stamford High School.
Michael Intrieri, who nominated Banta, cited his open-mindedness, his involvement in the debate team, and his passion for life. Neil inherited some of these qualities from his grandfather, who built a school in his rural village in India.
When asked what he thought about this award, Banta said, "The cool part of this award is to be selected by your peers. Award selections are usually done by adults."
Nitesh Banta is now attending Harvard University.
